FOCUS ON BEAUTY
 
Have you noticed that what you think about you bring about? It’s like when you need to wake up at a different hour in the morning, you focus on needing to wake up at 6:00 AM, set your clock, and somehow automatically you wake at 5:59 AM before the alarm sounds. How does that happen? What we focus on happens and becomes prominent in our lives, professionally and personally. Think about it for a moment, what do you most think about? Now, what do you have most of in your life, I imagine it’s the thing that captures your thoughts. Your thoughts and your focus are so relevant to your success that I dare say that when you shift your focus, you shift your course and direction.   
 
Now is the perfect time to focus on beauty, and planning for growth in your cosmetic departments with a busy holiday season on the way. What is your plan for growing sales in your department? What great ideas do you have for creating excitement and interest in new products? What makes your cosmetic area different and more enticing than your competitors’? Let’s talk about focus for a moment in regard to these 3 questions. Do you have a plan for growing sales, or is it perhaps a day-to-day experience hoping for the best? “I hope I have a good day today”, does that sound familiar? What about shifting your focus to “I’m going to make today a great day, and this is how I’m going to do it”? Now, think about how you can make it a great day. Will you set up a sampling area to introduce customers to new products, generating sales through promotion and demonstration? Will you make it a point to greet EVERY customer who enters your area, regardless of how they look, and engage them in conversation to identify their needs? Will you exude positive energy so that customers want to shop in your department, feel comfortable lingering, and are captivated by your enthusiasm? These are key things that you can focus on and clearly notice the change in direction that your day will take, having a more positive end result.  
 
With the approach of a new season, what are some creative ideas that you have for making it a success? Take 15 minutes out of your day to brainstorm ideas for promoting beauty sales in your department. You may even want to enlist the help of friends or family, people not involved in the beauty industry that can help you generate ideas. People from outside of the industry can provide a unique view point and positive input from having a fresh set of eyes. Listen to what is interesting and inviting to them. Listen to their point of view, and implement their suggestions if it makes sense. Try something different and notice how “freshness” renews your perspective. 
 

When you put all of this together, it creates the difference between you and your competitors. The truth is that YOU are the difference. YOU hold the power for creating magnificence, or mediocrity. What do you want to achieve? Don’t leave it up to chance, make a decision about what you want and focus on how you will achieve it. When you change your point of view, you change your direction, and when you change your direction you will see new opportunities and find new paths to success. Today is the perfect opportunity to practice the power of focus and see what happens with a new point of view!
